iwillbekingin2030 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 i just got halo 2. i use a free live account. and i have installed the latest updates for my graphics card, i have halo set to the lowest resolution with, low detail quality. I've tried adjusting the settings up and down such. It still laggs...it's at that point where sometimes it's playable and sometimes not...just enough to make you try and play but end up spending the time screaming at the computer. what else can i do to help it run smoother? please note i'm not a heavy pc gamer and so you'll have to explain what something is in detail. It works fine in single player and network. Quote I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me -Noel Coward :p
Dalo Harkin Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 It could be a number of things - most likely the server that you are using is crowded - try switching to another server. As you say that it runs fine in single player then it must be there servers. Try and avoid American PEAK times. SphereCube Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 The fact it runs smooth in single player doesnt mean that the internet connection is the problem. Online having a lot of people running around can be a real strain on your pc. Similarly the fact it lags on every server makes me think the same. Join a internet game with just a couple of people and see if its the same. Quote
iwillbekingin2030 Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 I usually join small games. I usually try and join smaller games...because it does play alittle smoother. but it still laggs. I find it laggs the least if i drive the warthog as compared to walking (if that makes any sense). Quote I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me -Noel Coward :p
SphereCube Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) I find it laggs the least if i drive the warthog as compared to walking (if that makes any sense). That makes so sense at all :P Try making the resolution as small as possible. (simply smaller resolution = easier to run) I do the same with crysis to get a nice smooth game, should work the same with halo2 **Make sure the game is set to run in windowed mode** Make a shortcut and right click it and choose properties, put a space after the last in the "target" box, and paste: +r_width 800 +r_height 600 This makes the game run in 800x600 try it and see if its laggy Then make it 400x300 etc etc to see if it fixes the problem. If it does then the issue is your computer, not the internet. Edited February 8, 2009 by SphereCube Quote
iwillbekingin2030 Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 hmm i have run it at 1024x768 windowed and fullscreen i have run it at 800x600 windowed and fullscreen i normally run at 800x600 fullscreen it makes no difference. i have also tried turning down quality and extra things like that. i will try the 400x300 thingy you suggested. ty Quote I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me -Noel Coward :p

Please tell me it's not.lol. As Dalo said, that maybe the problem, or is, I haven't looked into it myself, but I believe he is right, you could do with a GPU minimum of 512Mb.
