Last year I opened a gmail account because yahoo was doing a lot of really strange things. (Don't ask for specifics --my memory doesn't go back that far . )

But I've kept the old yahoo account, and now it has a new trick. When I try to exit (big red x, upper right) it just sits there. So then I minimize it with the intention of closing it from the system tray. And it just sits there.

It will do this several days in a row, then get normal again, then return to wanting to hang around. A reboot is the only way to close it.

I'm not concerned, except that I'm told it's not healthy to shut the pc down with a program still running.

This is only happening with yahoo mail. Has anyone else had this experience?

"Some obscure tool bar" Well, looking up top here's what I see:

top bar: back & forward buttons, browser

middle bar: hp, big red Y!, web search, bookmarks, settings, upgrade your toolbar now, hp create, snapfish,HP smart deals, mail, my yahoo

third bar: favorites, computer support & PC...,home, etc.

Also -- I don't use messenger anymore.

Lots of Junk there Struggling. :)

First thing go to your control panel and then to "add or remove software" find anything that says it is a toolbar and remove it. Yahoo, google or any others. You do not need any toolbar that did not come with the browser. If you see anything else there that may appear dodgy feel free to ask!

Yeah, the yahoo toolbar is there. When I opened a gmail account google wanted to jump on the hayride with its toolbar and I said no thanks.

So it's just the one. I just uninstalled the yahoo toolbar and it's still hanging around up there. My best guess is that it will go away with a reboot. I'll find out, anyway.

So, guys, are you suggesting that the extra toolbar has been causing the failure of yahoo mail to close?

Reboot and tell us if it's gone Struggling as it may have been bundled with other software too.

You may also need to run a Search and delete all instances of Yahoo.

I don't know.

On the other hand these toolbars have been known to lead to many little (and not so little) conflicts and problems. We will just have to see.
