Guest Nelson Ogden Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Dear group: I recently installed Windows Server 2003 - 180 day evaluation. All was fine until I had a problem with the computer and accidently reset the bios date! I didn't realize that the bios date was wrong until I rebooted the computer. Now Windows says that my evaluation has expired even though I correctly set the date. I found this article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812545 - that describes my situation but offers no solution. Can anyone here suggest what I should do? I'm not concerned about retreiving data, just need to get the server running for a while longer. Thanks!

The date was set incorrectly upon initial installation of the OS? If so, then there's not a whole lot you can do about it, you can attempt a repair installation, but I doubt that will set the evaluation date back to zero. Or, as long as this server isn't being used as a domain controller, you might be able to get away with setting the clock back to the incorrect time. If both of those options don't help give you that bit of extra time, then I'm afraid you're stuck with doing a full format...or resorting to illegal cracks.
Guest Nelson Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Re: My Server 2003 Evaluation Expired The date was correct when I installed the software but yesterday I had to move the computer. I didn't realize that the cmos battery was dead when I reconnected the computer. So next time I booted up the computer, the date was January 1, 2000. I got an error message when Windows loaded saying that ntuser.dat was corrupted. At that point I realized what had happened. Even after I correctly set the date in the bios, Windows still says that my eval. version has expired because the incorrect BIOS date "tripped" a security/protection feature in Windows.
