I am having problems with voice distortion when I play a DVD....

On the control panel, it states voice/speech is Microsoft Sam!!! When the DVD plays, the speech is distorted really badly and it sounds like the person speaking is drunk........

I have gone through the speech/sound devices and cant seem to rectify the ptoblem myself.

Can anyone help please, I am assuming its something really simple??

Its not normally the sound - it's normally the program you are using to run the DVD thats lagging -

easiest way to tell is - if the normal windows sounds are ok - its not the sound

Let us know if you are using Windows media player or another program and we will go from there

I would do a system restore to when you didnt have this fault. If it does come back it could be a software problem . have you tried using anything else from the sound card example music? try a different program with the same DVD and see if it is just the program. You may have done something with equalizer settings on the program and just need to set it back to default

As seedy21 said a system restore to before you had this problem might be the way to go. After that what caused this problem might or might not resurface.

I can only relate to what happened to me once when I got choppy or jerky playback on video and sounds on just DVD playback.

When I updated my HP all in one printer software and drivers through the HP site or Microsoft automatic updates it really messed up my DVD playback. After uninstalling the software it worked fine. Quite some time later I updated and it worked fine. However this was after many, many updates including windows updates. To this day I have no idea why printer software messed up DVD playback but not any other video files.

The point is after restoring to slightly earlier might solve the problem. After doing that update or reinstall software one step at a time. Check your issue at every step.

It could also be the sound card settings as seedy21 said as some have effect settings.

The next thing to consider is that your system is infected. Strange sounds throughout the system can be caused by malware.

Dalo Harkin in post 2 brought up the most likely issue.

austen was the second poster.

Can we clarify this matter before we proceed please so we know who is who and who we are responding to?
