Mac client on 2k3 server

I am testing/evaluating a 2k3 server for general use. A significant part of

my user base uses Mac OSX desktops. They can get to the server OK, but have

no ability to control access to their files and folders as far as I can tell.

Is there some way they can gain the ability to manage the settings that a

Windows client finds in the security tab (or am I just ignorant of what is

built in to Mac OSX). Ie., it would be nice if a Mac client could make a r/o

folder available to a specified group or user. Pointers to either MS or 3rd

party solutions would be appreciated.

I'd say it's better to control access security and such from the Windows

machine. It sounds to me that you're just using the Windows server box as a

file server. In which case you set the permissions on whichever folder or files

that are being shared on the server to a user that you've created on the windows

server.

Create a folder for each specific department, create a security group for a

department, create users for that department, add them to the security group,

set security settings on that share in Windows to lock out everyone except that

department's security group or give that group read/write permissions and

everyone else read-only permissions.

From there have the mac users just add a share (apple+k at the desktop or

however they add a share) and it should ask for the users' login information for

that share.

I don't see why one of your users should have access to change security settings on your server.
