In the remote site there is router and a computer that a printer is connected to it. There is no connecion between the sites except the internet. I need to print from the main office to the remote site. what should I configure in the workstation and the windows firewall and whuch ports should I open in the router ? How I can configure the printer in the server and lets some workstation in the main office to print the printer in the remote office? Than'x Shay
Guest Jabez Gan [MVP] Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Re: Printing over the internet Hi, I suggest that you have a site-to-site VPN between both offices. Then with a VPN, printing would be easy. -- Jabez Gan Microsoft MVP: Windows Server - File Storage "S" <s@s.com> wrote in message news:OXKQHYGGIHA.3360@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Hi > > I have main office and remote site. > > In the main office there is win2003 server and fw. > > In the remote site there is router and a computer that a printer is > connected to it. > > There is no connecion between the sites except the internet. > > I need to print from the main office to the remote site. > > what should I configure in the workstation and the windows firewall and > whuch ports should I open in the router ? > > How I can configure the printer in the server and lets some workstation in > the main office to print the printer in the remote office? > > Than'x > Shay >

Wrong - you said Windows server AND FW - that means Firewall. If it's a firewall you can setup a VPN to it. Just because you improperly implement a solution doesn't mean you can't properly fix it. Setup a Site-Site VPN between the locations and then print via IP and you won't have any problems. -- Leythos - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)
Guest S Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Re: Printing over the internet Hi I can create a vpn or site to site, but I cannot. I dont want that the workstation will have any connection to the server only that the server can print in its workstattion. Is there Internet printing or somthing like that. A Site-site VPN does not have to be all ports and does not have to be in two directions. You can enable, if you have a quality firewall, traffic in ONE direction. Consult a professional for firewall rules and to ensure what you think is a firewall can do this for you. Also, the workstation would only have access to the server if you don't properly have permissions setup. -- Leythos - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)

Guest Jabez Gan [MVP] Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Re: Printing over the internet I wouldn't recommend this , but please refer to the following 2 articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257416 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307847 The concept is you will need to setup IIS on your WinXP machine and bind a hostname or domain to it. Then ensure that DMZ is pointign to the IP of the WinXP machine. -- Jabez Gan Microsoft MVP: Windows Server - File Storage "S" <s@s.com> wrote in message news:e3DqBjRGIHA.4956@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Hi > > I have WIn XP Pro in a remote site. > > A printer connected to it. > > There is a router, with vpn only port redirection. > > The router has static IP. > > I need to print to the printer from the internet. > > Is there a way? > Which ports should I open in the router? > Which port should I open in local XP firewall? > > Than'x > Shay > > > "S" <s@s.com> wrote in message > news:eYR5Q2LGIHA.3672@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> Hi >> >> I need another solution? >> >> Than'x >> SHay >> >> >> "Leythos" <void@nowhere.lan> wrote in message >> news:MPG.218d27637d390784989718@adfree.Usenet.com... >>> In article <#lE0SuKGIHA.6068@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl>, s@s.com says... >>>> I can create a vpn or site to site, but I cannot. Forgive me, but I won't tell you how to do it over the public internet. It's a bad idea, great way to compromise the machine, will cause the computer to be exposed. If you already have a VPN to the site, why not put the printer on the network and then print to it through the VPN? -- Leythos - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)
