Restore problem

I have put up a new file server to replace the old one. After backing up the

shares off the old one, when I go to do a restore, it runs for a few minutes,

then stops and tells me it is out of disk space. There is over 300GB of free

space on the drive. I have tried just backing up and restoring one share at

a time, but the same thing happens.

Most recent attempt:

Backed up Operations share from old server to a file on new server. ~2.6GB

Run restore to a folder on new server.

Restore stops at 560MB and reports it is out of disk space.

Disk has 337GB free.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello LoneWolf,

What file system do you use on the disk, NTFS, FAT16 or FAT32?

Best regards

Hello LoneWolf,

Do you use NTBackup or another backup solution?

Did you verify that the backup file was good when you ran the backup?

Do you have an external USB/firewire HD you can use to do the backup, rather

than going across the network?

Re: Restore problem

I did select Verify in the backup., if that's what you mean. I have tried

using an external USB drive, with the same outcome.

For the purpose of moving forward, I found I could copy entire shares from

the old server onto the new one, so my migration is still on schedule. The

problem is no longer as immediate, but I still need a solution.

If you don't have a lot of shares, it's not difficult to re-create them -

and copy the data across the network using robocopy with the /sec switch to

copy the permissions.

There are ways to export your shares & import them, but I don't have a link

handy, sorry.
