Hey Guys,

Quick first post huh? :p

Ok, so I have a Biostar GF 8100 M2+ SE Mobo with onboard sound, video and LAN. Sound is RealTek HD Audio (Alc662), Video is nVidia gforce 8100 / nforce 720a. AMDx2 CPU, 2GB DDR2 RAM, (128mb shared vid).

I've checked drivers through device manager, although nVidia gives me blue screen after install and restart. I then have to go back to last best config.

I've recently ran Ubuntu, and had two installs of XP recently, all on seperate HD's. The sound never worked with Ubuntu *cough* but worked fine with the first XP install.

Now it crackles and buzzes when playing through WMP or VLC, but I can play online videos and it is fine. Which really has me puzzled. I am a total noob, but surely if the sound is mucked up then shouldn't it all be mucked up?

Also, and I realise this is the sound card forum, but when the sound mucks up, the video in WMP and VLC also goes blank too. Just incase that might shed any light on the situation.

Thanks for reading my epic, and I'd be grateful for any help at all,

Cheers :)

hi Kitten,

You say sound is OK with on line video, do you mean things like YouTube? That must mean your on board sound and video is perfectly OK, and suggests it may be a problem with WMP. Which version of WMP do you have? As an experiment, go to uninstall programs via control panel, and try uninstalling Windows Media player, this actually rolls it back to the previouse version if you had it, and have updated to the latest, which at the moment is 11. An uninstall will take it back to 10. If that cures the problem, try going back to the MS update site and re-install version 11.
