ash89 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 ok a few days ago my computer for some reason (think it was after a reboot) had the power light flashing and the HDD light flashing. I turned off the copmuter and back on and all seemed fine except the ethernet port didnt work, so i tried to shut down and the computer would shut down but not power off ... the PSU fan was still running and the HDD light was on. so i turned the computer off at the mains. Today i turned the computer on (at the mains) and herd a quiet sort of crack noise, and my computer would not power up, the PSU just powered up but the computer was still off, then i could smell what i think was a buring sort of smell so i am assuming i may have burnt out my PSU. What do you guys think has gone on here? Im thinking i need a new mobo and psu, any idea's? ------------- My comp is a eMachines 820 mobo - Trigem alaska3 (stock) PSU - Bestec ATX-250-12E (Stock) the rest of the computer is stock apart from a Creative soundblaster live soundcard and a Pinoeer DVD+/-RW drive in place of the stock CDRW. ------------- If any of you have had a problem like this then please get in touch as i duno weather buying a new PSU will solve the problem or if i will need a new mobo aswell! Jelly Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 as long as you get an atx psu you should be ok. E machines are generic pcs so i see no problem in replace the psu Quote
varispeed Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 If your machine still doesn't come to life after a PSU replacement, then it's probably taken out the mainboard also. Emachines are notorious for this problem. So much so it prompted one of our suppliers to jokingly ask "Are these socket 478 boards for Emachines repairs by chance?" Quote
ash89 Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 haha, if i brought a new PSU (one is on order should arrive later today lol as its 00.48 at the moment lol). If there is a problem with the mainboard then will this damage the new PSU if i install it and power up the PC? Quote
ash89 Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Just thought i would give you an update... I have replaced the PSU however when i turn the PC on the hdd light just lights up. and when i turn the PSU off the blue ring of light comes on for a few seconds on the power button. I am guessing this means i need a new motherboard lol the PSU i brought is a Enermax Liberty 400w Modular PSU. Quote
