Guest jason Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Hi, I have an enviroment which has 2 DC's that are running very nicely and I have just put online an offsite subnet that has about 15 hosts. There is an install of SBS 03 there that I was hoping I could use as the onsite authentication point for the domain, is this possible to have SBS server act as a third DC in a domain governed by 2 Server 03 Ent R2 controllers? Will SBS be replicated to? thanks in advance. jason

SBS is a single forest, no trusts, holds all the FSMO roles for its AD/Domain. http://sbsrules.com/SBS3Rules.htm look about half way down the page: Q: What limitations are imposed on SBS 2003 R2? -- Larry "jason" <jbs@cia.com.au> wrote in message news:Oom2CVUGIHA.4712@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Hi, > I have an enviroment which has 2 DC's that are running very nicely and I > have just put online an offsite subnet that has about 15 hosts. Guest jason Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Re: SBS server 03 as a offsite DC in an enviroment Thanks Larry for your insite. I had sort of figured it was the case, just wanted to be told as much! Guest SuperGumby [SBS MVP] Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Re: SBS server 03 as a offsite DC in an enviroment Note however that you could introduce SBS into the existing domain, imposing SBS restrictions onto the whole AD. Not a problem if the AD fits into SBS (75 users/devices, single forest, no child domains, no trusts, etc...). Guest Luke Robertson Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Re: SBS server 03 as a offsite DC in an enviroment Just to avoid confusion though, you can have other DC's working with SBS. The SBS server will have the FSMO roles, which means that there can be only one SBS server on the network. Joining a pre-existing SBS server into an existing AD would be messy though. As would any AD forest/domain "merge" operation. I'm not aware of any way to do that supported or not, SBS or not. As far as I know that will also be true in AD 2008. > > For answers to SBS myths, check out this link: > http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/evaluation/topmyths.mspx > > > > > > "Larry Struckmeyer" <lstruckmeyer(at)mis-wizards(dot)com> wrote in > message news:%23g$z1pUGIHA.4296@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >> Hi Jason: >> >> Fraid not.
