Guest Baba O'Reilly Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Within our enterprise print configuration, we have a number of HP printers which are connected via TCP/IP to the Windows 2003 server. A strange behaviour is being exhibited in that for some print jobs (PCL 5) they are being sent to print, the print completes, but the next job in the queue will print the banner page multiple times before continuing on with the job. Or, the job will stop part of the way through, then print the same banner over and over before continuing to print the entire job. I have asked HP about this, and they suggested throwing more memory at the printers. I did this, to no avail. The odd thing is that these printers are HP LaserJet 9050, and for the most part are less than one year old. The older printers which are HP9000's and HP8150's have absolutly no problems with any of these jobs. There is nothing in the event log indicating a problem, nor does the problem happen every time. I am however, able to reproduce it at will, which is what I have done for various debugging requests made by software and hardware vendors. We use Standard TCP/IP ports and Raw data with SNMP turned off and port 9100. All the printers are configured in the exact same way, yet the HP9050's will exhibit this behaviour while the older models do not. And the problem was also present before an upgrade from 2000 to 2003. I'm not a hardware person, nor do I know much about how the windows printing subsystem works, so I am hoping someone here can give me some ideas where to start looking. Do you think it's an idea? I can certainly run a test if you think it would work. I'm out of ideas on my own at this point. > Best regards Same to you -- True leisure cannot be enjoyed without some recognition of the spiritual world, for the first purpose of leisure is the contemplation of the good. Using the web interface to one of the functioning HP9050 printers, I compared the settings with the mal-functioning HP9050 and found two network settings that were different. I don't remember exactly what they were, but once I changed them, my jobs printed completly with no restarts. Thanks for your help. -- If you sow your wild oats, hope for a crop failure.
