Guest Kardon Coupé Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I'm thinking about re-install my server, but I would like some options or routes I could go down to make my life easier... I would like ideally to backup important information, users, priviledges, OU's, etc, etc. Then re-install the OS, and dump everything back and it would be like I've not touched it. (but obvsiouly I have) Hope someone can point me in the right direction.. Regards Paul.
Guest Justin Rich Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Re: Options for a Re-Install? well we would need to know what the server does. basically you need to back everything up some way or another... for AD what might be easiest is to just make another server and move all important AD services to it until you can rebuild the first server. your user profiles and other straight data can be backed up by whatever software you have. let us know what you need to save/restore and we can probably give you guidance on how to do it. Guest Kardon Coupé Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Re: Options for a Re-Install? It is only User, OU's, and GPO's, everything else is just 3rd party software that is easy to back up, I just don't wanna muck things up with users.....I want as least down time as possible.... Guest Justin Rich Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Re: Options for a Re-Install? create another AD server, and move the core components to that server then rebuild and move them back.. easiest way to rebuild a DC... you need to move the global catalog and the network infrastructure... then run DCPROMO to remove that server and then format... thats it.. you should be able to find a ton of stuff about it on the net... look around for decommissioning a DC Justin "Kardon Coupé" <prefer.to@readon.newsgroups> wrote in message news:%23NiclVmGIHA.1164@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > It is only User, OU's, and GPO's, everything else is just 3rd party > software that is easy to back up, I just don't wanna muck things up with > users.....I want as least down time as possible.... > > "Justin Rich" <jrich523@yahoo.spam.com> wrote in message > news:esQ9j5jGIHA.6068@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> well we would need to know what the server does. >> basically you need to back everything up some way or another... for AD >> what might be easiest is to just make another server and move all >> important AD services to it until you can rebuild the first server. your >> user profiles and other straight data can be backed up by whatever >> software you have. >> >> let us know what you need to save/restore and we can probably give you >> guidance on how to do it. >> >> Justin >> >> >> "Kardon Coupé" <prefer.to@readon.newsgroups> wrote in message >> news:e5GhureGIHA.4880@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >>> I'm thinking about re-install my server, but I would like some options >>> or routes I could go down to make my life easier... >>> >>> I would like ideally to backup important information, users, >>> priviledges, OU's, etc, etc. Then re-install the OS, and dump everything >>> back and it would be like I've not touched it.
