Need help with disaster situation:

I have an active directory with a single domain and 4 domain

controllers.

I have 2 sites (A and B) configured with 2 domain controllers in each

site.

All domain controllers have a copy of my DNS zone.

All my clients have statically configured DNS servers 1 and 2 both on

site A.

Production computers have a GPO, setting their DNS servers to 3 and 4

both on site B.

Last week I had a problem and the connection from production computers

to site A was

really slow. I had tested total lost of connection to site A, and

clients correctly

logon and work with site B, but with the lost of bandwith, clients

were still

trying to reach site A, and lots of them were not being able to work:

Their computers were stuck at "Aplying computer settings..."

I am going now to statically configure all 4 DNS servers in all

computers. But I am

Still worried.

I need total indepency so if there is any problem with one site, the

other one will

make the production computers work.

The first two Domain controllers I installed are the ones at site A..

Is there any role or service I have to replicate to site B so I can

have total independency ???

All of the DC are Global Catalog Servers.

PLEASE HELP ??

Re: Need help with sites configuration

Hi Mi,

I have read this but I am not clear what the problem is. General rules for

site resilience:

1) Set up Sites and Services correctly

2) Make sure all DNS servers are internal and resolve in the same way

3) Assign the DNS servers to clients using the DHCP service

4) By all means add a third, off-site, DNS Server to the list, but this is

only going to be used if both on-site DNS Servers are unavailable, and if

that happens you probably have bigger problems to solve.

If you have done all that, what problems do you experience specifically?

(You use the term "client" and "production computers". What is the

difference?)
