Guest Schuml Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Recently we have started to experiance odd reeboots in the middle of the night, and when we check the server I see that the last shutdown was unexpected and the reason code is Error code 000000e1, parameter1 80920183, parameter2 00000001, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 808ad390. We are running Server 2003, sp2, Exchange 2003 sp2, the computer is completley up to date with all security patches installed. it is inetemittent and does not occur every day. I am not sure if this is an issue with exchange, or server, but none of the other 2003 servers that we have are experiancing the issue

Guest Schuml Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Re: Odd Reboots in the middle of the night The Server is a Dell and it does have dell open manage installed, and it did not report any issues with hardware, that was my first suspicion as well. But thats not to say when the reboot happened that ther wasnt an issue it was just that nothing was recorded as an error. > > Hardware, perhaps? Guest Schuml Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Re: Odd Reboots in the middle of the night Unfortunatley a dmp file is not created at the time the reboot happens. Making it more difficult to trouble shoot. "Robert L. (MS-MVP)" wrote: > You may want to use symbols to analyze dumps. There are some hardware diagnostic utilities on one of the CDs that come with a Dell server - perhaps try running through those. -- Chris M.

Guest Schuml Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Re: Odd Reboots in the middle of the night Interestingly enough we were using the power cord that dell supplies that splits from one to feed both power supplies, we changed that and are now using 2 seperate power cords plugged into 2 diffrent ups's and we havent experianced the problem since, It may be two early to tell if this solution will solve the issue, but that was my feeling as well it appeared that the server which is is PE 2650 was getting unplugged, losing power whatever... allthough there are other servers plugged into the same UPS, that dont experiance the issue. there may be a fault with something in the server itself although this server has been trouble free for 2 years until now. Guest Allen Harkleroad Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Re: Odd Reboots in the middle of the night Hmm. It could be a short in the cord. Maybe I need to do the same. This server as well has been running for 2-3 years without a single major issue. It's twin is humming along happy as can be. It is weird to start about the same time others posted about the same thing (since 10/30/07). Do post if you don;t have any further issues and I will also take a look at the AC cords (you never know). It is strange as it is as if someone pulled the plug on the server. Guest Allen Harkleroad Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Re: Odd Reboots in the middle of the night Only one server on the UPS system is being affected. I think it has something to do with one of the websites on the server, getting huge traffic bursts from time to time (stupid content scraper from Korea hits it like 245 times a second), I think it may be the culprit. Needless to say we blocked they IP block where the traffic hits were coming from at our router. So far no more reboots. (fingers crossed). What has me bothered the most is when it shuts down, it;s a hard immediate shutdown, no event log entry, no crash dump, no BSOD, nothing. Like the machine just lost complete power. In any case I hope the changes I made and throttling of the site user wise will alleviate this problem. Thanks for checking back.
