Guest Wolfeymole Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Have a read of this Gavin. Understanding Windows Firewall settings - Windows Vista Help Don't run 2 firewalls side by side though and a good firewall will disable the windows firewall once installed. Quote
gavinhodges00 Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 Its already on, unless you turn it off, or use another firewall that overrides it As windows vista firewall is by default turned on without changing the default settings is it secure to do online shopping. Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Gavin the issue of online shopping deals more with the site than the firewall. Safety varies with each site and you should be careful who you are dealing with much as you would in the real world. Sites like ebay and Amazon are well encrypted and rely on consumer confidence. Others less so. Just be careful and do your research. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
RandyL Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 If the site you are dealing with is reputable. The firewall is not the issue as you already allowed an internet connection with it. If your connection is secure on the the transaction then data should be encrypted. HTTPS in the address bar should be a clue. The bottom line is that the company is what you should be concerned with. A firewall that blocks incoming traffic will protect your computer from being read. Outgoing will protect it from being sent. It's safe to shop online if the company is good.
