i have a windows xp disc if i put tht in will the xp go on it?

If the system has Vista installed then only use Vista disks :D

you need to boot into the BIOS on the laptop and chnage the boot up device to CD ROM drive before Hard Drive, save and exit and then restart

rite i done as u said then restarted the laptop. and still get

 

BOOTMGR is missing

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

 

n the - flashing under it

The error that you gave in post 16 should have told everyone that this was the case

I didn't notice that Clipper had run a diagnostic that produced #10009 replace hard disk.

 

That being the case a new drive should fix the problem.

 

I'm still a bit confused on one point though. Perhaps you can give me some insight on this as I don't understand something.

 

If a hard drive is dead can you still boot to a bootable CD such as the recovery console cd? It seems that was a side issue. Except in Vista it's called the Recovery Environment I think.
