Any disadvantage(s) to Thin-clients?

We are considering purchasing thin-clients for connecting to our

Windows 2003 Terminal Server (TS) instead of purchasing actual

workstations. The clients need to run an application that is on the TS

and have internet access. Some will run MS Office that is on the TS.

There will be a VPN that TS runs through.

There will be a networked (Ethernet-based) printer the thin-clients

need to print to.

We have never seen or used thin-clients before and are unfamiliar with

brand names.

Can anyone point out any disadvantages to this setup or recommend

brand/models.

Thanks

Re: Any disadvantage(s) to Thin-clients?

Hi--

One thing that helps when choosing a thin client is determining whether the

thin client is a desktop replacement, a mobile device, required in an

environment that isn't PC-friendly, or some combination thereof--thin

clients have several different designs and the one you want will be affected

by what you plan to do with it. You'll also need to evaluate whether you're

comfortable running all applications remotely. Unlike PCs used in with

Windows Terminal Server, thin clients won't have the option of running local

applications.
