Terminal Server Role

I'm not sure exactly what happened but my boss and a consultant were

doing some work on our phone server and terminal server role got added

tot he w2k3 server somehow. Now I'm 90% sure that I don't need to

worry about removing the role but they were doing some installation

work so I'm wondering now if I will have to re-install that app when I

remove the role or if you only have to do that with apps that you

installed in "Install Mode" Any idea?

It depends on several factors:

 

- Whether or not the application was installed before or

after the TS role was added

 

- If after TS role was added, was the session in install

mode or not during the install? The TS will automatically

change the session to install mode if the install file has

certain names (for example, setup.exe, install.exe)

 

- The type of installation and how it installs shared dlls,

if it installs them. Depending on the installer and if the

session wasn't in install mode it may have installed

shared dlls to an incorrect path. Problems caused by

this would manifest even if you left the TS role installed.

 

Most likely the applications they installed will be fine after

removing the Terminal Server Role. If not you can add

the role back and then fix the issues or restore from backup.

 

Please post back with your results either way. If you have

issues post details and I will help you resolve them.

Well I pulled the role off last night. Everything seems to be

working fine so far. I believe the app was installed prior to the TS

role being added by no one seems to be sure. Anyway if any problems

crop up in the next day or so I'll post them up here. other than that
