struggling Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Here's a very LOW-TECH tip for laptop(or notebook--whatever you call it) users: I've used a slanted keyboard for about a hundred years and really hated the flat surface presented by the laptop. For a while I used an external keyboard, but lack of space at my present location was a problem. Frustrated with the difficulty of typing, one day I grabbed a hand towel, rolled it up and placed it at the rear ( taking care to stay clear of the air vent) of the bottom. I now no longer mind typing. Quote A sure sign of wisdom is being able to say "I don't Know".
Guest Wolfeymole Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 While this is a good idea I wouldn't recommend it across the board as fan positions on laptops can vary. A better idea perhaps maybe to obtain rubber wedges similar to those placed as door stops under the laptop at the back. Just a thought. :) Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I have to agree with Wolfey on this and besides it also has the benefit of freeing up the hand towel for its intended uses. Cleaning the dog's paws and wiping the dip stick. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Dalo Harkin Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 There are specific devices for this job As pointed out a rolled up towel is not ideal on all laptops Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
struggling Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 You mean they make thingys (specific devices) for that? Probably to be found someplace like Office Max. I should have thought of that years ago, developed and patented it and made a pile of money. Story of my life: a dollar short and a day late. Guest Wolfeymole Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Have a look at this Jane. Xbrand Cool Travel Laptop Stand ? The Gadgeteer Quote
struggling Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) I read the writeup on the product and quote here one of the author's observations: "Using a laptop while it is resting on the Cool Travel does raise it to a more comfortable typing angle. I just wish the front elevation was a bit less'' That was the first thing I noticed when I looked at the photo of it. I guess I prefer a steeper angle, which allows me to type much faster. I imagine there are other products out there, though. This little rascal got really hot last summer (way before I thought about elevating it), when the room temperature approached 95 degrees F. I sorta figured that when the keyboard is burning your hand it's time to worry. I placed a little fan next to it and was able to keep it happy until the weather cooled down. But I'm glad to know these products exist, and may well acquire one , when I find one I really like.
