New built PC does not start

Hello, I recently put together a PC and it refuses to boot up. I checked the number on the start up process for my motherboard and it powers up fully, but then the BIOS is supposed to start, but it does not. I do not hear the beep and nothing appears on my monitor. All the lights and fans come on, but nothing else happens. The PC is fitted with an Abit NI8 SLI motherboard, a variety of processors have been tried, but at the moment I have an intel Q6600 fitted, 2GB RAM and a 650W PSU.

 

I first thought that the problem was a processor fault, I have tried it with 2 different intel E6400 dual core processors, neither of which worked. I then tried it with a celeron (can't remember the model) which surprisingly worked and I got to the BIOS screen, however, the celeron processor was not powerful enough for the PC and would slow down the other devices so I then tried a new sealed Q6600 which didn't work either. I have checked the FSB on the motherboard and all the processors should work with it so I abandoned the idea of it being a processor fault.

 

I then made a quick check on the RAM by replacing it with 2 different sticks of RAM (again 2x1GB) and no change so I think it is not a RAM problem.

 

I then moved onto the possibility of it being a PSU problem as the PC was fitted with a 350W which I replaced with a new 650W unit which again made no difference. This brought me onto the idea of it being a faulty motherboard as it may have blown when the 350W PSU was in there. But then, surely it wouldn't have worked with the celeron processor either. I tried resetting the CMOS settings using the jumper, which again, made no difference. The idea that I have now is that the BIOS may be out of date, but I have not got enough experience with BIOS to be confident that this is the problem. I also thought that the problem may be a faulty FSB as the celeron has a lower FSB than the 2 E6400 processors and the Q6600. I have another motherboard, but it doesn't support my graphics cards (no PCIE) so when I get home, I will try the other motherboard and see if it works with the processor to see if the other motherboard works with it.

Your board does not support Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPU's.

 

Have a look here for the spec

 

Universal abit > Motherboard, Digital Speakers, iDome, AirPace, Multimedia

 

I've had a look at the BIOS updates and there is no reference to changes to support newer CPU's.

 

If you need the speed of a Core 2 Duo or Quad you will need to buy a new board.

Thank you for the reply. would have never of come to that conclusion. Would anyone recommend a good motherboard (on a relative budget) that supports an Intel Q6600 processor and dual PCI-E SLI nvidia graphics cards?
