Windows 2003 Server SP1 Issue

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have tried now for a number of mounths to load Windows 2003 SP1 on to the

following machine

Dell Power Edge 2600

Windows 2003 Standard Edition

4 Gb Ram

Exchange 2003 Latest Service Pack

2 Xeon Processors 2.4 GHZ

6 x HDD

Mcafee Active Virus Defence

Mcafee Protection Pilot

Veritas Backup Exec 10d

Windows 2003 SP1 loads on to the server without reporting any errors, BUT

there is one big issue you are unable to access active Directory once the

machine loads and also have difficulty with the services.

I have spoken with Dell Gold Support and after ensureing all drivers and

firmware are up to day and viewing log after log they are at a loss as to

what the problem is. I ahve spoken with Mcafee and they have had me disable

the av filters and even unistall the av software completely but I still ahve

the same issue.

So... I am really after some advice / suggestions as to what I should do

now. My thoughts are 2 fold either contact microsoft paid support and see is

they are able to shed some light on the problem but I am unsure as to what

the paid support is like and unsure as to whether they will be able to

resolve the issue... Any comments??

My second thught is to some how start from scratch i.e. reload windows etc

on the machine but this sounds like a nightmare task and woould like to know

your comments and views on this and even if possible advice/documentation on

the best practice for doing something like this...!!??

Thank you inadvance..

Have you run dcdiag to check any errors? Also, you may try clean boot. This

how to may help.

How to run Windows OS with a clean ...With MSCONFIG, you also can configure

a clean boot to disable common startup ... To perform a clean boot, please

follow these steps: 1) Run MSCONFIG.EXE. ...

Hello:

A few things:

1) Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP 2 is out now. Can you install that?

2) Have you tried using a different source to install the SP1? Perhaps

download it again from the MS Web site and do not extract the file--let the

install extract it.
