Term Serv User Profile problem

We have over 100 Terminal Server users that randomly connect to our Terminal

Servers. All but one have no issues. However, the one person who does have

an issue finds that he can connect to the Term Server but when he's done , it

takes forever for him to logoff. In watching his session, I noticed that

when he logs off all the processes shutdown normally EXCEPT winlogon and

CSRSS. Thinking this may be a Term Serv User profile problem, I tried to

delete his profile but discovered that it would not delete. Seems a

UsrClass.dat file does not want to be removed and says that someone has it

open but the user is logged off from the Term Server. Any ideas on what I

can do to resolve the lengthy logoff and remove his Term Profile?

Hi,

 

Are you able to manually unload the problem user's class hive?

This is accomplished by logging on as an administrator account,

navigating to the problem user's class key in the registry (use

regedit.exe), selecting it, and then choosing File-->Unload Hive.

 

In order to find the user's class key you need to first look up the

user's SID. You can do this by navigating to the following key

in the registry and then using find to search on the user name:

 

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

 

The user name will be part of the ProfileImagePath registry value.

The SID is the parent key name that the ProfileImagePath is

contained within. For example,

 

S-1-5-21-3829217777-1253468217-3731238512-1005

 

Now that you know the SID, locate it under HKEY_USERS

(the classes key will have _Classes appended to the SID), click

to select it, and then choose File-->Unload Hive.

 

If you are successful in unloading the hive then you will be

able to delete the UsrClass.dat file in the user's local profile.

 

You should install uphclean if you have not already. It will help

reduce these types of problems.

no luck. The SId does not exit. However, since I wrote this the user logged

back in and I see that there is another profile for him. But, the same

userID is listed in My computer/Profiles and the Delete option is greyed out.

If a profile is currently loaded the Delete option will be

disabled--you can't delete a profile that is in use.

Thanks TP...I rebooted the server and THEN was able to remove the profile.

Incidentally, in another posting Your suggestion helped me a lot.
