services.exe sucking up RAM

Hi. We have 2 DCs. Both running just about the same software and services.

Both have DNS. Server "A" also has DHCP. Server "B" doesn't.

Noticed recently on Server "A" that services.exe is sucking up 140 MB of RAM

[as per the task manager] while services.exe on Server "B" is hovering at

around 40 MB of RAM. Both have Win 2K3 SP2. Both should be up to date on any

security updates.

Ideas? [Aside from rebooting].

Hello Gis,

Services.exe is a core Windows process. It basically handles all Windows

Services (start/stop/launch).

TLIST.EXE can help you to find out, for downloading see the end of article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824344

Re: services.exe sucking up RAM

check out Process Explorer from Sysinternals

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/processexplorer.mspx

and also Process Monitor

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/processmonitor.mspx

I believe that with both you well get a very detailled look under the hood

to see what's going on.
