brillo_pad Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Literally, I turn it on, log in and before I can do anything it restarts (before the point you can start to do anything with any speed). I don't know if this is the right forum as I have no idea what the problem is. Do tell me. I'm able to get on in safe mode, no problem, but obviously I can't do anything much in safe mode aside for getting these specs: Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition) Version 2002 Service pack 3 Fujitsu Siemens Computers AMD Athalon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.01 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM Tell me if more info is needed, and where to get it. Cheers. Quote

Tootech Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 First thought is that either your disk has some corrupt files or one of your startup programs is causing an issue. Run a disk check by going back in to Safe Mode. Click on My Computer, then look for your C: drive, right click over your C drive and select properties. Then select Tools, then Error Checking and Check Now. Tick both boxes and click Start. It won't start - it will tell you that it can only check the disk on next boot, and ask if you want to do that - Yes you do, shutdown and restart. It could take anything up to an hour to do, be patient! If that doesn't solve it, come back and we will go through disabling your startup programs Quote

Tootech Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 After a bit more thought..... Once the checkdisk is complete, if you can not logon, go back to Safe Mode and run System Restore. Restore your computer back a few days to when it was running normally. Let us know how you get on. Quote

brillo_pad Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Thank you, Tootech. I tried to do Error checking like you said but it didn't ask if I'd like it to do it on next start up, it just said that it couldn't complete the disk check. Also, for some reason I don't actually have any restore points.. it's strange, because I could of sworn that I made one manually. It should do it automatically, right? But it hasn't been. Quote
