Speaking as a fellow American, I must say I've had mixed feelings about Obama. In the beginning I was impressed with his charismatic personality. And yes, we definately needed a change. The novelty of the first black American president was also intriguing.

But, as 2008 moved along, many of his earlier writings, statements, and points of view were disturbing to me. He may well turn out to be the best thing to come down the turnpike in a long while.

Only time will tell.

A sure sign of wisdom is being able to say "I don't Know".

Although not an American, I too am cheering on the new President!

We watched it live this morning on television and how wonderful to have a young man who truly seems to care about the people - and our neighbours, the Americans, can surely use a 'breath of fresh air' right now.

While I sometimes grind my teeth about some political decisions American leaders make, I've never done it re the American people themselves. Never. Any disaster anywhere - and poof, they show up with kind hearts and hard work.

Now, if we could only 'clone' him and have his clone become the head of Canada!

I'm with beeceebee on this one all the way.

After eight years of Bush he has his work cut out. It's time to turn this country around.

I agree with Randy that Obama has a long and loborious task of trying to undo some of the wrong that Bush caused - The thing I think of most is, He has 4 years (at present) to undo 8 years of lunacy

While we're Bush-bashing, there is one thing we must all remember. And that is the part our Congress has played in the mess this country is in.

There's only so much a president can do. And he often may not get by Congress.

Most of us focus entirely on the Office of the President. Life is too busy and we fail to pay attention to Congressional voting records come election time. And, yes, I include myself in that category.

I appreciate living in a democratic society. But it's far from perfect.

A sure sign of wisdom is being able to say "I don't Know".

It is easy to call it Bush bashing Jane when someone who is not an American criticizes him. He is, or was, the face of America to the eyes of the world and he did not do us proud.

Personally, I think he is not a bad guy at all, just out of his depth. It must also be remembered who controlled the congress during the bulk of the deregulation (although there is enough blame there to spread around.)

He is also responsible for the for the elevation of Dick Cheney to a level of unprecedented power. This is a man who, laughably, suggested that he could declare himself to be part of the legislative branch to avoid the restraints of the executive. More powerful than the President.

I don't know what is in his (Cheney's) heart but I do know that I have lived now through 13 presidents (including Obama) and have never been more frightened by anyone as I was by this one Vice President.)

I live mainly in Europe and in a country that was always been overwhelmingly pro American. It was sad how that has changed and heartening to see it return.

Not being perfect is not an excuse for what has occurred over the last eight years.

My rant is over now!
