XP Domain users and Local users laptop login question??

Recommended Posts

Laptop users are a bit confusing to me.

Say I have a Laptops that can connect to the domain, ( if set up of

course) but also because they are transportable don't alway connect to

the domain. eg at home or on the road. I also know ( or think I

know ??) that a laptop domain user lets call him MrDomainUser can

logon to the laptop some number of times not connected to the domain.

That there is some cache that allows a non authenticated user to login

and access his files.(am I right here??) However once that cache has

expired, ( I dont know the rules for this) but anyway, once its

expired he cannot log in as MrDomainUser, untill he is connected to the

domain again. Now he has to log on as some local users say

MrLocalUser. This mean that his files that he could get at when logged

in as MrDomainUser cant be accessed. Because he is a different user.

Can someone help clarify this and provide a solution for Laptop users

to access all their files without this confusion. (or maybe Im just

confused).

Thanks.

Hello Steve,

Check your GPO for "Interactive Logon: Number of logons to cache in case

DC is not available"

Re: XP Domain users and Local users laptop login question??

Thank you thats VERY helpfull, I will defenetly change that.

Are there any additional settings that go beyond 50, My reading tells

me that 50 is the maximum, Can you just turn this setting off so, if

there is a network domain it will connect if not it will still work

and not prevent you from logining in as MrDomainUser.

Thanks.

It appear from that article that it cannot be changed. It can be off

(no cacheing) or on with a count of 50 being the maximum.

Steve
