Hey, i really hope someone can help me!

Heres the problem:

In August I bought a Toshiba A300D. It has 3 USB drives, 1 on the left and 2 on the right and the one on the left is the only one that actually works! If i plug anything into the first one on the right a bubble pops up saying "USB Device not recognised" and if i plug anything into the second one nothing at all happens. At first I thought it was jus because I was plugging quite old usb devices in but even my brand new digital camera won't work with it. This is soo annoying because I keep having to unplug everything as I can only use 1 USB drive.

I have updated my BIOS and currently have 2. something (I can't remember how to see what current version I've got) But im pretty sure its the most up to date on because I downloaded it from the toshiba website.

I have also checked device manager and there are not icons next to any of my drives or anything that says I have a problem.

Please help!

Fix USB Devices

I have updated my BIOS and currently have 2.

He probably means BIOS version 2 Wolfey.

Hello Legend. Please perform the below instructions and see if they help or not.

  • Download the file archive INF Collection from here and extract it.
  • If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue.
  • Within you will find a folder named inf. Enter the folder and copy all its contents.
  • Next browse to the %systemdrive%\WINDOWS\inf folder, where %systemdrive% stands for the drive letter on which Windows is installed (typically C drive) and paste the copied contents.
  • Answer Yes to any subsequent prompts and complete the process.
  • Next, please download the attached archive and extract it.
  • After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix USB Devices.reg.
  • Double-click on the file and you will be asked whether you want to import the information into the registry or not.
  • Answer Yes to the prompt and sometime later another dialog box will pop up informing you that the operation was successful.
  • Again, browse to the %systemdrive%\WINDOWS\inf folder and delete the infcache.1 file, if present.
  • After you have done the above, reboot your computer.

Note: Please backup your registry before you apply any of the above changes so that we can revert back your system to working condition if something goes awry.

Please make sure any USB devices are disconnected while you are performing the above procedures. Next, try to plug in the device again and see if Windows is able to recognize it now or not.

Hope that helps. :)

Hi, sorry it has taken so long to reply, ive been really busy at uni and i wanted to make a recovery disc before i followed ur instructions. unfortunately my usbs still don't work altho i followed everything-maybe it cd be because it wouldn't let me overwrite some of the stuff in C\WINDOWS\inf- it said i didnt have permission even though I only have 1 account on my laptop so surely i must be the administrator :s oh well

I think i will go through it again with my uncle when i see him coz hes quite gd at computers.

one good thing has come from this though, i found another usb drive that i didnt know i had which works!! lol
