Guest Scott Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Hi, I've just started playing with SBS 2003 and have setup a test server. Most of my network experience has been using just plain old workgroups so I'll apologize now for any dumb questions :-). Anyway, my question is this. I've got a few computers on my network that are all setup as a workgroup and the test sever is a domain. I've added usernames to the server for each of the workstations, shared a drive on the server and all the workstations seem to be able to access the share with no problems. Now, will there be any major issues accessing this server if I DON'T setup the workstations to be on the domain?? Thanks, Scott......
Guest SBS Rocker Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Re: Workgroup computer accessing a Domain server?? Let me see here if I follow this correctly. You've setup the workstations as members of a workgroup. Created domain accounts so the users on the workstations can access domain shared resources. Why would you not want the workstations to be members of the domain? I don't see any clear reasoning for not wanting to given the information you've laready provided. Guest Scott Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Re: Workgroup computer accessing a Domain server?? Right now I don't want to make any major changes to our current network, I havn't made any changes at all to the workstations, just mapped a drive letter out to the test server to see if I could actually access it without the workstations being members of the domain. It seems to be working ok, but I just wanted to check if there are any problems running a setup like this.. Thanks, Scott.... "SBS Rocker" wrote: > Let me see here if I follow this correctly. Guest Anteaus Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Re: Workgroup computer accessing a Domain server?? You might like to take a look at this freeware app: http://mylogon.net Basically a 'Domain-free' logon for small networks that doesn't require you to re-create the userprofiles.
