Is there anyway i can get the information stored on my old Sony Ericsson phone (tel numbers, pics etc) onto my PC? I have just bought a data cable so i can connect the two but i have no idea what to do next. When i first connected the pc and phone it came up with some wizard installation thing which didn't work anyway. Now when i connect it it doesn't even do that anymore.

The problem is my old phone broke so the phone screen won't turn on so i cannot view all my stuff that's stored on it so i am desperateley trying to salvage it by transferring whats on my phone onto my PC.

You'll have to install the Sony Ericsson software for that particular phone Nick.

What's the model number?

It sounds like the phone's totally knackered anyway.

Is the data on a sim card or in the phone's memory nick?

There are sim card usb readers available at a pretty low price, If you stored everything on the phone itself you clearly have a problem. Is it only the screen that is broken?

i think i am up the proverbial creek. The data i want is stored on the phone itself. It seems to be just the screen that broke so i can nae see anything. And i don't have the software for the phone. ohwell.

Depending on what model your phone is,

My old sony, when I connected it to my PC, it asked me on the phone how I would like to connect, file transfer or "normal mode" Not sure if it will ask you on your phone, because you wont be able to see it if it does... :S

As Polo has said - on newer phones you do have to set them up to act as a 'storage' device so that files can be moved and copied etc

it started promising. I downloaded it and connected the phone which it acknowledged. Then it said it was looking for the phone but it said it didn't recognise any phone connected to it. ** hum.

Sounds like the phone's well and truly ****ed mate, in future back all your stuff on to the SIM.

Agreed - you may be able to take the phone to a shop like o2 and see if they can read any info and swap it onto your SIM.

There is normally an option within the advanced settings to where you want numbers to be stored either on the SIM on the phone or a combination -

Do yourself a favour and ALWAYS choose to SIM - as most people keep the same SIM for a very long time, but change phones every year or so

Dalo is right,

If you take it to whichever service provider you are with, eg O2, Orange etc, or a Sony Ericsson branch, they should be able to copy the information you want for you off the phone.
