Hi guys i have a western digital external hard drive ( the my passport model ) but im getting fed up with the software on it not working properly can i format this drive and just use it as drag and drop

OK Alan, I have the same HD. Now this is going to be complicated so get a pen and paper.

 

Here it comes. Dump the software.

 

That is the entire process that I used. It is now just one big file cabinet. Sort of reminds me of Windows 3.01

Does it need to be external? - scrap the case and put it in your PC

cheers folks and yes dalo if i could fit it in my pc i would but as bee said its just a small usb drive so bee can i dump the software without losing the stuff i have on it

I think what I did is put it all into a single folder and ignored it. Finally I realised that I had no use for it and just deleted the folder.

 

I use it only for backup and have no problems at all.

hey bee was this post supposed to have a link if so then it didnt work mate or did you mean just format the drive completely

Sorry aJ I seem to have a sense of humor only I understand.

 

What i meant was to simply delete the software in order to use the drive for data storage and backup. You need do nothing more. No link needed and no formatting.

 

You can also do the same thing if you keep the software on the drive (maybe move it into a single new folder if you want. ) There is something in there that keeps wanting to autorun so I finally just deleted it.
