Dear All,

I have recently had to replace the hardrive on my DELL inspiron 1720. Everything is fine, vista is back on and i've got all my data back on from backup.

One problem, i need to reinstall the driver for my bluetooth device, i put the driver CD in, and ask it to install the driver. A box comes up, asking me to switch on my bluetooth device so it can be identified....I can't do it. The button on the side of the laptop is on, but the Bluetooth is not on. The way i see it, it isn't broken, i just don't know how to switch it on in the computer. There needs to be something i can click on the activate it again because when the button on the side of the laptop is on, you get the option to switch bluetooth off even though the button is on, that is what i did before i started having problems with the hardrive.

Any tips? Device manage? control pannel? What should i do? I just need a way of activating bluetooth, so windows can install drivers and software for it, but because there are no drivers and software for it, i can't activate it.

Hey james, try these steps:

- Start

- All Programs

- Bluetooth

- Go to settings or wireless file transfer.

- Once its open, a little Bluetooth icon should appear in your task bar (lower right of the screen).

- Find it, right click and go to "Power On."

Hope this helps.

Hi,

There is no bluetooth option to click on in all programs. I've checked the BIOS and it saids that bluetooth in enabled. Any more ideas?

You were defornatly right about getting that little icon on the botton right, but i just need to get it. Is there anything i can download as far as programs/drivers that can solve this? I just physically have the software to switch it on.....Does dell have something?

Thanks.

Have you tried pressing FN + F2,

I believe this is the shortcut to enable it for your model.

If not look on the f keys for an image that represents wireless and try that with the fn button.

Are you sure that the drivers are installed and the bluetooth is set up?

my problem is i can't switch it on, it's insternal, and Fn + F2 doesn't work. Neither the switch on the side.

I will look for drivers and see what i can find because i need software to switch the thing on in the first place.
