hi everyone.

i have already read all suggestions for that problems but nothing worked. i have a hl-dt-st dvdram gsa-t20n ata device in an acer aspire 5920g and vista home premium. from one day to the other it wasnt able to read new cds/dvds, but still old one?!:confused:

please help me.

You need to update the firmware, am I right in saying this is an ASUS notebook Edited by Dalo Harkin

I find no driver either because that 5920g is not listed on the Acer website.

 

Are you sure you have the right model number?

Are you getting any error codes? Have you checked for any problems in device manager?

 

What burning software do you have?

 

Have you looked at this thread for a possible fix?

 

I was able to locate your model on the Acer PanAm site. However I didn't see any specific drivers for your DVD unit.

in device manager its "unknown" and there is a ? but it tells me "working without problems.

i use no burning programms, i deleted them all because they caused problems with fallout 3 and securerom

i tried the "cd Fix" also the regedit - solutions with deleting the upper-lower files, nothing worked.

so whats wrong?

I would venture to guess that you need to reinstall the drivers. The basic Windows ones.

 

If that doesn't work your optical drive is probably failing.

 

Uninstall the device from device mnager and reboot. This should prompt Windows to reinstall the drivers.

 

The fact that you can read some CD's and not others leads me to believe that the drive has physicall damage and needs to be replaced.

 

Your last post leads me to think the same thing.
