Question about R2 Domain Controller

I already have a 2003 R2 server which is the primary domain controller.

I tried to add a secondary DC in the same domain and got an error during

the dcpromo process. This secondary server was a non-r2 standard 2003

server. Do all subsequent DCs have to be R2 servers?

Nevermind on this question. I discovered my problem was not related to

R2 but related to FSMO roles. I got it fixed.
