Good Evening,

I have recently bought a laptop which I plan to use in conjunction with my home PC. My home PC is a Compaq running Win XP, my Laptop a HP running Vista. I have a Netgear wireless router for my internet and a Buffalo ext HDD connected to the PC.

Is there an easy way to network my 2 computers so I can access my files on either machine, and any changes made on my laptop take effect on my main pc and vice versa?

Thanks!

Not sure about this bit - I guess you are talking about sychronsing certain folders?

To network them you do need the XP update described by tismehi - there is one for SP2 state XP and a diferent one for SP3 state.

The PC's need to be in the same workgroup.

Your firewalls may need a rule adding so that local PC's are not hidden.

You will need to share a folder(s) on each PC, then go and find them over your network.

Then either add a desktop shortcut to the shared folders, or map them as a Network Drive.

That's the bones of it, I reckon we can do if we go in small steps........:)
