HP Digital Camera won't support Win98

I just bought an HP Digital Camera model M547. This 6.2 MP model was

just replaced with an 8 MP model so it was on sale. My old camera was

a 3mp and took excellent pictures (till it died), so I dont need 8mp.

However, the camera came with an install CD which has all the

photo-editing software (which I dont need), and the USB drivers.

I tried to install the drivers for Win98se and found the CD only has

software for XP and above. I went to the HP website to download the

Win98 drivers and got a message saying they no longer support Win98,

WinME, or Win2K.

The camera itself seems to work fine, and easily. However, if I can

not download the pictures to my computer, they can keep the damn

thing. Tomorrow I am returning it.

Does anyone know which digital camera brands still support Win98? It

does little good to have a camera that cant transfer the files to a

computer, and I am not going to upgrade to XP just because HP will no

longer support Win98, particularly when I despise and hate XP.

If these companies refuse to help ALL their customers, then I refuse

to do business with them. After all, how difficult is it to make a

few drivers available on their website...... I dont care if their

photo editing software dont work. There is always Photoshop and

others, but if they cant at least offer a driver, screw em'.

I just hope the photos I put on my SD card will work when I buy

another brand of camera so I do not lose all of them. They were taken

of our newborn baby. Does anyone know if they will work and remain on

the card when I do find a camera that accepts Win98?

Thanks

George

George, go spend $10 and buy a card reader for your computer (it plugs

into USB) then take the card out of the camera and put it in the

reader.

Since the introduction of USB this has been the simplest

way to copy from camera image cards. They appear as

a "pseudodrive" that Windows manipulates like any other

(needing no software beyond USB activation.) The same

works for most MP3 music players.

I have noticed that HP has even removed from its web site Win 98

drivers that it has had there for years.

HP has turned into what must be worst major brand in computers

for customer service.

Personally, I will never buy another product from HP.

Just recently, I paid them $49 for support on an out of warranty

machine. Their tech in India told me I had hardware problem and

should buy another computer from him for $300. He told me HP no

longer had recovery CDs for the machine, even though their web

site listed them. He told me my machine was obsolete and I

should buy another one from him.

I ordered the CDs from the web site, restored the system, and it

works fine.

HP charged me $49 for false information about the CDs and sales

pitch.

They will never get another ten cents from me.

Since you do not suggest using HP then I am curious, foo who do you and

others suggest for digital cameras and other equipment and why?
