DSTM Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I don't wan't to HI-JACK Mara's thread,so thought better to ask here. Which is the most credible Scanner to use, when checking for Drivers updates required? I just ran 3 different Driver Scans, and got 3 different Results,so who do you believe? Thanks.:) Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
RandyL Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 To be honest Doug I never use or trust such things. I use a mix of programs to identify the devices then go to the manufacturers site to get them. Of course if you have a name brand computer with good support I suggest to download the drivers from them. It may not always be easy especially with unknown devices but with the help of google it can be done. Quote We are all members helping other members. DSTM Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 Thanks Randy. It's all a learning curve, for me.I was confused at 3 different results. Will leave the ON-LINE Scanners alone and ask here,in future,if I have a related problem. I want this Computer to run Optimal, hence running the Scans. This relatively new Computer, has given me nothing but trouble, and trying to sort. Appreciate your advice.:) Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
RandyL Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 No problem Doug. We all learn from each other. That was my opinion but there may be others. But I'm sticking to what I know. :) Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. DSTM Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 Came across this Article, and gives a detailed explanation,re Drivers. Well worth the read,IMO.:) How, and when, should I update drivers? - Ask Leo! Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
RandyL Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Anything Leo writes is worth a read. I must say that I agree with him on not updating drivers unless you have a problem or need to. There can be times it may go badly. Not often though. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Dalo Harkin Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Dont use driver update sites - they say you need this and that and its rubbish - does it work? most peope its a yes and thats that. Gamers / 'Power Users' :D regularly update the GPU and sound drivers as they have high end components that are still being 'optimised' same with the MOBO drivers. Newer GPU drivers offer increased performance in games as listed in the driver release notes. Normal users - The drivers that are on the original MOBO disk will still be fine (99%) of the time. Unless you have an add in GPU leave the drivers alone Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
DSTM Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Thanks for that advice,Dalo. When I got 3 different results, from 3 different Sites,Alarm Bells started to ring. Thought, the best thing to do,was ask the Experts.:) Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
