I wish

When most home users buy a pc they get a disk, (I talk of the old XP days and before) which they think gives them the right to install it willy nilly.

What you have purchased in fact is the right to use the software on that disk via the license.

Microsofts EULA (End User License Agreement) states 1 PC = 1 License unless you have purchased a Volume License Agreement which means that you can buy 1 copy of the operating system and install it 5 times or more using 1 product key.

I hope this make things clearer Croc.

By the way these are the system specs for Vista Basic.

1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

512 MB of system memory

20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory

DVD-ROM drive
