Slow network file copy in VSS enabled volume

Hi,

Here's my problem: we have a server with tons of drives and partitions C..H.

each partition is about 500MB

operating system is Windows 2003 x64 SP1.

Most clients are non-windows laptops connecting via SAMBA.

We never had issues, but recently we enabled shadow copies on partitions F

and G; we noticed that when clients perform a large file transfer (say, a

700 mb file), the transfer rate is as fast as usual, but the progress bar on

the client pauses near the end, it stays there for a long time (e.g. 1

minute) and eventually it finishes ok, the file has been written correctly.

In the "idle" time the server has moderate cpu activity (say 10%) and some

I/O.

Can anyone point me in the right direction in fixing the problem?

thanks,

MH

note that the same problem is mentioned here

http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=66468

(just search "5 seconds remaining" in the page)

also, it seems that the issue does not occur if shadow copies are turned

off.

any comment?
