Working with TS in a remote site

Recommended Posts

Hi

In our company we have 2 server.

1 Win2003 DC with all the applications.

1 Winnt 4 with Exchange 5.5

We are merging with another company that reside in another city.

They have 1 application server.

We have 50 users they have 30 users.

All the application should be reside in 1 location.

I think that TS will be a good solution for that.

My q. is How many TS servers do I need for 80 users?

Which line should be between the sites for 40 users working in ts session

each session will be with outlook, word, application and IE?

There are alot of printing regular files and large files. from 10 pages of

word to 30 pages.

Pls advice.

Than'x

Shay

TS can be a solution. How many servers you need for 80 users depends on

several things :

- type of server

- load of the application

- number of concurrent users

I prefer to have about 25 users per server (dual core Xeon, 4Gb Ram)

Maybe you can think to use Citrix instead of TS, Citrix takes less bandwidth

and also has better results on using e.g. IE due to speedscreen technology.

Re: Working with TS in a remote site

Hi

The servers will be duel core xeon with 4 GB ram, raid 1 with 256MB cache

ram and 15K rpm disks.

Application: Winword more than 1 at a time, Outlook, 1 SQL application.

Concurrent users will be 50-55

Because of the cost of citrix it going to be TS of microsoft with 3rd party

software.

What about printing? what is the best solution for printing over the wan all

kind of printers (HP, Samsung, Kyocera, Xerox)?

Should it be a dedicated line or it can be site to site tunneling?

Than'x

Shay

Re: Working with TS in a remote site

I think you'll need 2 servers. About printing can I tell you that I work

mostly with HP printers. Because printing can cause a lot of problems in a TS

environment, the best thing is to install as little drivers as needed on your

server. If you use the HP universal printer, you'll only need one driver for

all HP printers.

About the line you can work with dedicated or site-site VPN as long as the

line is stable and there's a fixed up/download.
