Guest Wolfie301 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Is there a way to force users to shut down? I have set up wsus but not many computers have appeared in my wsus group and I think this is because they never log off or shut down. They also need to re-boot for other updates such as AVT. Any help very much appreciated.

Guest Wolfie301 Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Re: Shut Users Down Thanks Pegasus, I do not really need to warn users as I intend to do it over the weekend when no one will actually be working. I also do not wish to be there! so if i could automate it with GPO or script that would be better but I dont know if it can be done or how to do it. Also I do not know about the shutdown.exe or how I can use it on other users on the network. Simple: Don't use the "net use" command! On the other hand: Sooner or later someone WILL be working over the weekend and your reputation will suffer when you are responsible for a few hours work to be lost. > I also do not wish to be > there! so if i could automate it with GPO or script that would be better > but > I dont know if it can be done or how to do it. Guest Wolfie301 Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Re: Shut Users Down Thank you Pegasus, I see your point on notifying so I will use this, I will look into the command and its switches and incorporate it with schedular. Hopefully this will shut all the users down - exept the servers! Guest G Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Re: Shut Users Down If you are deploying your WSUS settings by GPO, doesn't group policy refresh automatically on a schedule? Might you have some other problem? ________ Greg Stigers, MCSA remember to vote for the answers you like
Guest Wolfie301 Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Re: Shut Users Down Yes, I do seem to have some other issues, the computers are not appearing in the group I created (well about 20 have out of 100). So I need to go back to the drawing board. It is not easy to setup and be successful, well for me its not! Guest G Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Re: Shut Users Down It does sound like you have a GPO problem, not a WSUS problem. I've inherited some GPO problems in more than one shop, and solving them is a thankless job. But it is one worth doing. Start there - make sure your GPO is in fact updating your PCs first. ________ Greg Stigers, MCSA remember to vote for the answers you like
