I have a main office with 5 users and a remote office with 1 user and a

printer and a scale connected to com2:.

I have a SBS server and a 2003 terminial server running. My remote user can

use RWW to login to the the SBS SERVER then conect to the terminal server

under SERVERS on the main menu to run my apps and allow network users to

print to the remote office.

One of the apps we use needs a scale. The remote office has a scale that is

attached to a serial port. The scale works when he is running the app

locally but not when he run it off the terminal server.

From what I read we can access the remote serial port using RDP but if we

connect to the SBS network using RDP it connects to the SBS server instead

of the terminal server.

QUESTIONS:

Can we get access to the remote serial ports using RWW? (there are no

drivers for the scale)

How can I get the remote office to conect directly to the terminal server.

( I created a A record to my SBS server remote.domain.com = my static ip)

My network looks like this:

Internet

|

SBS Server (static IP)

|

switch (192.xxx dhcp from sbs)

/\

pc's terminial server

thanks

Re: remote issue

Hi,

RWW does not have the option to enable serial port

mapping under Optional Settings. If you like you could

modify the selectpc.aspx page to include it or set it

to enabled by default.

The other option is to open a port on your firewall

and point it to the internal ip address of your TS. That

way you could use the regular Remote Desktop Client

and enable the serial port mapping that way (Local

Resources tab). For example, you could map port 3391

to your TS and then change your TS so that it listens on

port 3391.

How to change Terminal Server's listening port

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/187623

You need to enable COM port mapping on your TS

by *unchecking* COM Port mapping on the Client

Settings tab of RDP-Tcp Properties in Terminal Services

Configuration (tscc.msc).

After you have completed all of the above you need to

configure the parameters for your scale in your application

on the TS and then test. Sometimes it can be tough to

get the exact baud rate, parity, etc. so it is helpful to make

a call to the scale manufacturer's tech support line and ask.

I have dealt with Fairbanks support in the past and they

were excellent.
