Error 7025 - An attempt was made to connect to a session whose vid

User "A" running a WinTerm (Wyse) set to 1024x768 @ 16 bit is connected to a

Server 2003 Term Server.

User "B" running a Dell PC set to 800x600 @16bit is connected to the same

Server 2003 Term Server.

User "A" runs terminal services manager, finds user "B" in the user list,

right clicks on the user and chooses "Remote Control". The following error

is returned to User A:

"Error 7025 - An attempt was made to connect to a session whose video

mode is not supported by the current client"

Anyone running a WinTerm can easily remote control any other WinTerm users

on the same TS, but this issue persists for any WinTerm user managing any

"real" PC's session.

Using a real PC, we have no trouble with Remote Control of User B's session.

Kicker is that the client claims that this worked before we moved them from

a 2000 TS to a 2003 TS about a month ago ...

I've just tested with client A and B on XP Pro clients, and that

works just fine.

Are you sure that the clients aren't trying to remote control each

other in the other direction?

Remote Control a client with 800x600 from a client with 1024x768 is

fine, but not vice versa:

233365 - Err Msg: Session ID [session Number] Remote Control Failed

Re: Error 7025 - An attempt was made to connect to a session whose vid

Hi,

What OS and RDP client version is running on the WinTerm?

(check on the client device)

When the WinTerm client is connected, open up Terminal

Services Manager (tsadmin.exe), select the winterm's session

in the left pane, then in the right pane click the Information tab.

What do you see for the Client build number and Client Color

Depth fields?

With current versions of the RD client and 2003 server you should

not see issues remote controlling with mismatched resolution/color

depths. For example, if you remote control a session with a

greater resolution than your location machine, scroll bars will

display to allow you to pan.

Likewise if you remote control a session that is at a higher color

depth than your session the client will automatically "upgrade" you

to their depth while you are remote controlling and if that is not

possible you will remote control at a lower color depth. The

remote controllee will remain at the higher depth regardless.

Now, as to the the end user claim that this worked before

moving them from 2000 to 2003, well that was not the same

scenario because 2000 only supports a maximum color depth

of 8-bit (256 colors). This gives more weight to the theory that

the winterm RDP client may not be current.
