Guest Thom Paine Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I have a Dell Poweredge 2850 that is horribly slow to boot up. I've run the dcdiag as well as netdiag and it reports no errors. It literally takes 10 minutes to boot up, with it waiting longest at the preparing network connections. Are there any other diagnostic tools I can run on this thing to see what the problem could be? The server runs dns and AD. We connect to the outside world with a Cisco Pix. the default GW on the server is the IP of the pix and the server's ip is the only address listed in the dns server in the network connection. Anyone else experience this and could help me out with it? I'm disgusted with this server because it should be miles faster than our old computer and it's slower. I'm not sure what to try next. Thanks. -=/>Thom
Guest Ryan Hanisco Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 RE: Slow Bootup Hi thom, Make sure that you have network cables connected into all the network ports or disable them. When Windows can't load the TCP/IP stack for a machine, there is a 10 minute timeout as it waits for network services. This could, of course, be indicative of bigger networking problems, but this is not normal. Disabling all unused NICs will help you to begin the troubleshooting. -- Ryan Hanisco MCSE, MCTS: SQL 2005, Project+ http://www.techsterity.com Chicago, IL Remember: Marking helpful answers helps everyone find the info they need quickly. Guest Thom Paine Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Re: Slow Bootup Yes, I have the second nic disabled. I had wanted to use teaming to make the machine faster, because we have 30 workstations, but didn't get it set up. It's running in gigabit mode, and I've disabled it since the beginning. It's still slow. Thanks.
