Guest wlhj@news.postalias Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I am a sys admin for a small local gov. entitity. We are considering upgrading our Exchange Server from the 2003 version to the 2007 version. We will have to upgrde the server to Windows 2003 64 bit. Presently for backups we copy the files to another Windows 2003 server (32 bit) and then to removeable hard drives, which we rotate. My question is this. Will we still be able to do a copy of these files from the 64 bit version of Windows Server 2003 to the 32 bit version or will there be some compatability issues?
Guest Eric Denekamp Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Re: 64 bit vs 32 bit file systems AFAIK the only problem you can encounter is the filesize that may become too big for the 32 bit version. but that is something you as an admin are responsible for, so you can set limits on those. what happens when you copy a file from box a to box b, is that the operatingsystems talk to each other, not the filesystems. Even if you copy from FAT to NTFS or any onther filesystem, if the operating systems understand each other there is no reason that the file is not copyable. (except for maybe permissions of course...) -- Good luck Eric Denekamp http://blogs.infosupport.com/ericd ============================= "wlhj@news.postalias" <wlhjnewspostalias@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:03477947-4DF1-4002-9FAA-8265C72B9B5C@microsoft.com... >I am a sys admin for a small local gov. entitity.
