RP1980 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Good Evening, Every time I open Vista on my laptop Windows Update advises me a new security update needs installing, 'Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)' I have selected this update to be installed many times, it also updates every time I shut the PC down but it's still there to be installed. When I look at the update history it appears several times. Why won't it go away? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v63/RedDragon365/Update.jpg Quote

Dalo Harkin Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 It can also be attributed to you not having admin privelages - it tries and installes the update and when you reboot it hasnt and keeps trying Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
RP1980 Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 How would I know if I have admin privilages? I am the one and only user of the computer. I bought it brand new a couple of weeks back and went through all the initial setup myself? Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) Go to your Control Panel and click on "user accounts" it should say Computer administrator under your log in name. If not it may allow you to change your status if you click on your name. If for some reason it will not (It seems odd that you should be able to but I know I can.) you can go into safe mode and then open the administrator account. You can change your user status there. (NOTE: The above is based on my quick look at your last post and your OS as noted in your profile. These instructions apply to XP. In order to avoid this kind of mistake please go to your UCP at the top and amend the OS in your profile. If you use both, that too can be noted.) Oops, didn't even think to change that when I bought my new laptop. Amended now. I have checked and I am the administrator. Thanks! Quote
