Hello Again Guys,

I recently had to perform a factory re-install to get my dvd/cd roms players to work again in my HP Pavillion tower.

What i have been left with is a tower that now has a fully working dvd player and cd rom player, but is a problem, before this when all was well before devices being corrupted for dvd and cd devices, i use to turn my pc on and my pc would load up as usual and my hotmail box would appear on screen. I would go to log in and it would open up as normal and i was on line. I would then open ISP home page up by clicking desktop icon for BT and clicking cnnect, now this worked great for me as i use hotmail alot for my emails and could also open up and have different webpages one on bt and other on hotmail.

Now since my factory re-install, i had to get all programs that worked as above and i also get error messages come up everytime i turn pc on, i went to open up MSN messenger thinking this would do the trick but it was older version and allthough it shows my msn contacts etc i could not see my emails as when i went to open it would open up outlook express grrrrrrrrrrr. The only way for me to open my email from hotmail was to go onto MSN website and open up my hotmail emails from there but this meant logging on every time and now i dont emails as and when they come in unless i go onto msn page log on and keep refreshing page, as before i would have little box with noise alert that would open up in bottom right of, screen.

Can some one run me through steps to get my pc working as it was before and the way i found easiest for the way i use my pc ?????

As Match said update your Messenger. Then in Messenger options make sure the Alert settings are set to notify when you recieve new mail.

Also in Messenger options in the Sign In section choose when and how you want Messenger to start.

how do i get rid of old messenger or will it do that automatically ?

Posted
NO you have to uninstall it. Just go to add and remove programs in your control panel. On the other hand you can just leave it as it can come in handy sometime in odd reception areas if you are on a laptop and use wifi.

It can't hurt to remove it and I do know that messenger can get finicky at times so it may be nothing at all.

what exactly do you mean by this?

I have had MSN for years now and The only link between MSN and hotmail that I have known is that when you are signed onto MSN Messenger, a popup appears in the bottom right when you recieve a new email.

Or on your contact list for MSN Messenger, it displays how many unread emails you have.

The new version has both of these features, the same way the old versions did.

Can you explain in a bit more detail what is different for you?

Hi DirtyPolo,

I will try and explain as good as i can.

before this changed from factory re-install, i would turn my pc on and once everything was loaded i would have hotmail box appear ready to sign in, i would click to sign in and it would open up page and i would have alert bx botoom right showing me how many new email i had then if i wanted to do live chat with contacts i could do so, would not like now have little figure in bottom right showing me im signed in and once i click on there it would come up with messenger page. the difference is now when i go to this page i now have to go top right to click emails and it first shows me msn page welcoming me then i have to click again which opens up messages page in another page ????

By a "Hotmail box" do you mean the signin window for MSN Messenger?

this:?

http://avyaya.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/block_msn_windows_live_messenger.jpg

This is the MSN Messenger sign in window, if you would like it to appear on start up you have to change the settings.

To do this on the New MSN Messenger, click on the menu button on the right (shown in picture) then go to Tools, then Options, as shown below.

Click the "Sign in" Tab and here you can select it to start up with windows, and also to stop the welcome page from appearing, as show below:

On this menu too, is you click on the Alerts tab you can change and set which alerts to see when you're signed onto messenger.

Also, to check your emails when you sign on a popup should appear such as this one:

And also on your contact list it shows you how many unread emails are in your inbox, displayed by this image:

Is this the kind of thing you meant?

Hope it helps.

5) Save it as a ".Jpg" or ".Jpeg" file.

just a quick question have never used paint to crop or alter image any quick advice as managements will only allow size no more than 500mb ??????

Okay, I've included another screenshot to make it easier to explain :)

Great things screenshots :P

Use the tool outlined in RED to select what you want, so if you only want to show the MSN window, click then tool then click and drag to create a box around the MSN window in the pasted image.

Note: You may have to click on another tool and then back on that one to use it.

Then go to "Tools" as shown above, and click on "Crop", this shall cut the image down to what you have selected only.

- To get rid of information you do not want showing, click on the tool outlined in BLUE,

- Change the colour to white, by clicking on the white square in the row of colours,

- Then just click and drag the mouse to "paint over" what you need to.

As for file size, a simple image such as just a webpage, [a largish square], or the MSN window... [a smallish square :P] will be way under the maximum size once cropped.

Hope this helps :)

Also, in reply to this quote:

That does not happen with me, when I click the image it takes me straight to my inbox on a new tab.

It maybe an issue with settings, as I believe I have seen it somewhere.

I shall look around and get back to you.

EDIT:

I have found what I believe to be the solution to your problem :)

When you open the "Options" menu as described in my previous post, where the above quote came from, there is a tab called "Security"

Under that tab it gives you options about asking to signin in different places etc,

I have included a screenshot just to make it easier for other viewers of this thread to understand as you are able to check your own Options window quite easily.

When the outlined option is ticked, it will ask you for your password on every site etc that requires it.

If unticked, like mine, it should automatically take you to your inbox, or whereever you wish to go, without asking for a password once you are signed in once. [To MSN Messenger]

If this has solved your problem, then there is no need for your screenshot :) but if you post it before seeing this reply then no worries, you can always manually take it down later if you wish to.

Is there anything specific to this browser that you need/use?

As I wouldn't recommend using your IPS's browser and would recommend standard IE, or even better, FireFox
