Guest Jeff Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Hey At home I've got 2 computers: 1 winXPpro+sp2 machine and 1 win2k3 machine (180 day evauluation) These computers are connected to eachother through a local network. I'm trying to run the win2k3 machine without monitor and without keyboard/mouse. Accessing the win2k3 machine from the winXP machine by using Remote Desktop. As a test I've connected a monitor and keyboard/mouse to the win2k3 machine and then I can use remote desktop to connect to it. but now I've disconnected the monitor and disconnected keyboard/mouse and I cannot even ping the win2k3 machine. and also I cannot get remote desktop from that win2k3 machine... what am I missing here? Jeff

Some PCs will happily boot up without a monitor connected. Others won't.

Plug the monitor in, but no keyboard and mouse. Boot the server and see what happens. Depending on the model of server, there might be a BIOS setting that will ignore the lack of a keyboard at bootup. On desktop machines this tends to be a setting called 'Halt on..' and you have a choice of 'All errors', 'All but no keyboard', 'None' etc etc. Have a look for any similar settings that may prevent it from booting without various things attached. -- Chris.
Guest Jeff Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Re: problem running win2k3 without monitor Thanks. I've just managed to solve this. I bought a cheap kvm-switch from my local data shop. So I'm using the kvm switch..
