Can't find Sound card or Drivers for it

Is the pc a hand built job or say a Dell box?

Hi, it's a hand built one as far as I know. I've found what I needed after all that! After quite a bit of looking about on the VIA website (it's not the easiest to navigate) there's a few combined Audio codec packs to download. My sound card driver apparently comes under a Vinyl Audio combined codec thingie. We got there in the end! Sound is now playing nice and loud again! You learn something new everyday.
