Guest b11_ Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 What utility should one use to deactivate an active thumb drive?
Guest Curt Christianson Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Re: What utility should one Right-click on the USB icon in the notification area, and select "Safely Remove Hardware". Guest b11_ Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Re: What utility should one Curt: Just like a partition, a thumb drive could be active or not. I have a DOS utility that could set a partition active or the reverse but the utility does not "see" USB drives. ______________________________________________________________ "Curt Christianson" wrote: > Right-click on the USB icon in the notification area, and select "Safely > Remove Hardware". > > Curt > "b11_" <b11@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:CF14F07F-6713-433E-83AB-0BABC5527ABC@microsoft.com... > > What utility should one use to deactivate an active thumb drive? > > >
Guest Jeff Richards Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Re: What utility should one You should ask whoever created your DOS utility why it doesn't 'see' the thumb drive. You haven't mentioned what this utility is, so it's a little difficult to give advice about what might be wrong with it. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "b11_" <b11@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:DF261593-FA24-47EB-ACA9-68A313868C57@microsoft.com... > Curt: > > Just like a partition, a thumb drive could be active or not. Guest Bill Blanton Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Re: What utility should one Setting a partition "active", assuming the accepted use of the term, does only one thing. That is to make the partition the bootable partition. It will not make a partition on your USB removable drive visible, or if clearing the bit, "deactivate" the drive.. Is the BIOS is trying to boot your flash drive? Guest b11_ Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Re: What utility should one There should only be 1 active partition or flash drive so I'm trying to de-activate the flash drive. ____________________________________________________________________ "Bill Blanton" wrote: > Setting a partition "active", assuming the accepted use of the term, does > only one thing. Guest Bill Blanton Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Re: What utility should one I don't understand what you mean. There should not be an active partition on any drive other than the partition that contains the OS. To "de-activate" a USB flash drive, unplug it. If the BIOS is attempting to boot the flash drive, then change the boot order.
