The computer freezes after being on for about 25 minutes. It also occasionally freezes & then reboots itself. I have tried changing the power management options, disabling screensavers & checking event log for error that occures when computer feezes, but I can't pin-point error.

I have tried with a clean copy of windows xp & then loading each program on the hard drives seperately, but computer still freezes or re-boots itself.

All help with this issue wouuld greatly be appreciated.

How old is this machine, dutchman, and when was it last cleaned?

What you describe may be caused by overheating from dust accumulating inside the case. Do your fans appear to be operating at normal level?

About three years old & it was cleaned out about three days ago.

This was the cause of the computer freezing & rebooting itself (after the cleaning of the inside was done).

Tell us briefly how you cleaned the machine. What did you use? Did you remove the cpu and heatsink? Do your fans seem to be functioning normally?

There is no point in discussing windows etc. until hardware problems are sorted. It is usually not coincidence when a system failure follows a cleaning.

I removed both the computer, the heatsinkand then reconnected them.

Yes, all the fan's on the system are functioning fine.

no, both the fan & heatsink stayed together when my brother cleaned it.

:D

we have three components here CPU (little square thing lots of gold pins), heat sink, and heat sink fan, did you separate any of them three, and or remove them from the main motherboard?

Did you use a vacuum or compressed air to clean it?

Dutchman the issue is whether the heatsink was separated from the CPU.

The point being that once you separate the heatsink from the cpu you must reapply new heatsink paste. No matter how tight the heatsink appears to be locked down, without a good seal there will be leakage and overheating.

It still sounds as if that may be the cause of your problems.
